Kathy Lee, Google Cloud’s President for Greater China, is reportedly preparing to step down, with Bin Shen, former Vice President and Head of Consumer and Device Sales for Microsoft Greater China, expected to take her place. There have reportedly been ongoing tensions with Lee and Google’s Asia-Pacific division. Under Lee’s leadership, Google Cloud’s primary clients in China were ByteDance’s overseas operations and fashion retailer SHEIN. However, the company faced challenges in securing additional major clients, casting doubt on Lee’s performance. Bin Shen joined Microsoft in July 2019, leading the Consumer and Device Sales Division for Greater China, according to Microsoft’s website. Since 2022, he has served as Vice President of Global Partner Solutions at Microsoft. Industry insiders report that Google Cloud has set a revenue target of $1.2 billion for its China operations in 2024, with the primary objective being to maintain its current business levels. Update: Google Cloud announced on Nov 18 that former Baidu Vice President Watson Yin has joined the company as President of the Greater China region. Prior to this, Yin served as Chief Operating Officer at Weimob and Vice President at Baidu Group, where he played a key role in building Baidu’s Intelligent Cloud business. His career also includes leadership roles at Apple and SAP.
