For five seasons, he’s played the hunkiest chef this side of the Seine in Netflix’s “Emily in Paris.” But there was some uncertainty as of late whether Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel would be joining Lily Collins (as titular marketing maven Emily Cooper), Ashley Park (as Emily’s BFF Mindy Chen) and the rest of our favorite Parisians for the hotly anticipated fifth installment of the romantic comedy series, which drops Thursday, December 18.

But good news for Team Gabriel fans: Now that season 5 has officially finished filming, we know that the actor and his most famous character will be returning, despite Bravo having some misgivings over the past year about the direction of his character. Thankfully, the 37-year-old star recently reaffirmed his involvement in a November interview with Variety and also teased that “Fun Gabriel” will be making a return to the series after a “gloomy” and drama-filled showing from the character in season 4.

Addressing his seemingly lighter, happier appearance in the season 5 teaser clips, Bravo said of his character: “I think Gabriel is going back to what he was in season 1. I think all of us wanted to bring back a fun Gabriel. I hope we addressed the demand!”

Of his character’s journey across the fourth and fifth seasons, Bravo added, “My character was proactive in the first half, and then the second half was a bit gloomy. When I did that [guacamole] interview, I was referring to my love for the character in the first half! I think any actor is always happy to have fun parts to play.”

The Nice native has seemingly come to terms with the different facets of his “Emily in Paris” persona, and reflected on the journey that he and the character have taken across 50 episodes of the rom-com. “It’s five years of a career that started on season 1, and me trying to understand what it means, what being in the public eye means, what growing with the character means,” he told Variety. “Nobody likes labels, but I love the fact that people connected to this character a certain way, and I completely accept it.”

Based on that rousing season 4 finale, the fifth edition of the series will see plenty more from Grabiel, as he sets off to win back Emily’s heart despite the considerable competition of her new amore, Italian cashmere prince Marcello Muratori (played by Eugenio Franceschini).
