Apple’s first foldable iPhone is still shrouded in mystery, but a new leak suggests it could already have a major advantage over the iPhone 17 Pro Max – a much bigger battery.

According to the latest report, the device tentatively known as the iPhone Fold is being tested with a battery somewhere between 5400mAh and 5800mAh, putting it comfortably ahead of the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 4823mAh cell or 5088mAh on the eSIM model.

And if Apple’s past prototyping is anything to go by, that number could climb even higher.

The leak points out that early iPhone Air prototypes used a tiny 3000mAh unit before Apple figured out how to fit a much larger pack into the final design. The same thing could happen here, meaning the foldable may even nudge closer to 6000mAh by the time it hits shelves. Although of course this is an early rumour so a lot can still change,

For a foldable, that level of battery capacity makes sense. The iPhone Fold is rumoured to feature a 7.58-inch inner display and a 5.38-inch cover screen, both of which will demand significantly more power than a traditional slab-style iPhone. A larger cell isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s necessary if Apple wants its first foldable to avoid the battery anxiety that plagues many early-gen folding phones.

As for launch timing, things are still murky. Some reports say Apple is targeting next year, while others claim 2027 is more realistic. But if the battery rumours prove accurate, Apple’s long-awaited foldable could arrive with one of the most practical upgrades possible: all-day endurance, and then some.

If anything, this leak suggests Apple is treating battery life as a priority for its entry into the foldable space.
