Xiaomi Auto said on Thursday that its 500,000th vehicle has rolled off the production line. The company reached the figure in just over 19 months, setting a new record for the fastest production of 500,000 units by a global new energy vehicle maker.

Why it matters: The development marks a shift towards mass production in China’s smart electric vehicle sector. It signals the company’s ability to scale up production quickly, reflecting growing consumer confidence and the company’s increasing market presence.

Details: Xiaomi’s first vehicle, the SU7, was launched in March 2024.

  • Xiaomi founder Lei Jun posted on Weibo, noting that while this figure may be modest for industry giants, it represents significant progress for Xiaomi Auto, demonstrating the company’s strength across R&D, manufacturing, sales, delivery, and service.
  • According to Lei Jun, the company will continue to prioritize safety and delivery, with safety as the foundation and top priority. While ensuring quality and safety, Xiaomi will work to accelerate production. The company will also focus on increasing technological innovation and further integrating AI with smart manufacturing.
  • On Wednesday, Xiaomi Group partner Lu Weibing revealed during an earnings call that Xiaomi Auto is expected to meet its annual delivery target of 350,000 vehicles this week.

Context:Xiaomi’s third-quarter earnings report for 2025 showed continued growth in deliveries for Xiaomi Auto: 75,869 vehicles in Q1, 81,302 in Q2, and 108,796 in Q3. In October, the Xiaomi YU7 ranked first in domestic SUV sales, the company claimed.

  • The company reported Q3 revenue of RMB 113.1 billion ($15.7 billion), a 22.3% year-on-year increase. Adjusted net profit reached RMB 11.3 billion ($1.56 billion), up 80.9%.
  • Revenue from smart electric vehicles and AI-related businesses totaled RMB 29 billion ($3.97 billion), with 108,796 new cars delivered during the quarter.
