SKY is giving customers a free second remote to control their TVs.
The perk has benefited those with the Sky Q box for years but now viewers on other devices can finally take advantage.
It’s ideal for those who may have lost or misplaced their main remote – or even when the batteries have run out.
The second remote isn’t your conventional handheld controller.
Instead, it’s app based on your phone or tablet.
It allows you to do everything the usual remote does, from navigating around the Sky TV guide and entering channel numbers, to pausing live TV and accessing the home screen.

Here are some of the features:
- Navigate left, right, up and down, as well as an OK button
- Pause and play button
- Home button
- On / Off button
- Interactive button
- Channel number entry

However, there are a lot of unofficial Sky remote apps around on the app store so be sure to download the right one.

“Make sure you keep your app updated for the best experience and new features.”
To take advantage of the Sky Remote you’ll need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Sky Glass or Sky Stream.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, make sure your Sky Glass or Sky Stream is on, then it will automatically connect.

I’m always misplacing my Sky remote.
There is a feature that can help you to find it on Sky Glass (just say: “Hello Sky, find my remote” and it’ll start beeping).
But this isn’t an option for Sky Stream.
So the added benefit of a digital remote on your mobile seems like a great idea.
I just installed it now to give the feature a whirl and it’s super easy to set up – I was using it within 30 seconds.
It’s so good that I might just use this instead of my main remote from now on, as I have enough remote controls around the place.
