A new report from Counterpoint Research shows that the iPhone’s comeback in China is still going strong. Here are the details.

iPhone 17 line saved the phone market from a year-over-year decline

For the past few months, multiple reports from China have shown that Apple has managed to put a years-long sales slump behind it and has seen strong iPhone demand.

And while the numbers began to look up even before the launch of the iPhone 17 line, Apple has steadily outgrown and outpaced the smartphone market since the new devices came out.

In that vein, a new report from Counterpoint Research (via Reuters) shows that the iPhone was the clear winner of China’s month-long Singles Day sales festival, which wrapped on November 11.

The report says the iPhone 17 accounted for 26% of all smartphones sold during the festival, which is particularly notable given that overall smartphone sales rose just by 3% year-over-year.

According to Counterpoint, without the iPhone 17 lineup, the market would have posted a 5% decline instead of this modest gain.

From Reuters’ report, based on numbers from data provider Syntun:

“In the smartphone segment, Huawei saw the biggest decline among major brands with its share falling to 13% of sales, down from 17% last year. Its flagship Mate 80, launched earlier this week, missed the sales period.

Xiaomi phones accounted for the second-largest share of sales with 17%, though its sales declined from a year earlier due to the earlier timing of its Xiaomi 17 series launch.”

While limited to China, these numbers track with the expectations Apple set in its most recent quarterly report, when the company said it was heading into what should be its best holiday quarter ever.

And with much of the season still ahead, Apple looks to be well on track to meet that guidance.

Do you think Apple will keep this momentum during the holiday season? Let us know in the comments.
