Wayve, the London-based autonomous driving software unicorn, has acquired data quality assurance startup Quality Match as it pursues data accuracy as a cornerstone of its strategy.

Based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Quality Match specialises in interpreting and analysing data used to train AI models for a variety of applications, including autonomous driving.

With Wayve working towards the commercial deployment of its AI Driver software, it hopes that the integration of Quality Match will strengthen its ability to develop auditable datasets needed for reliable and explainable AI models.

“Bringing Quality Match into Wayve marks a strategic step forward in our commitment to deliver safe and trustworthy AI,” said Wayve co-founder and chief executive Alex Kendall.

“Daniel and his team have built exceptional expertise in data quality and understanding for AI, which will strengthen the robustness, interpretability, and performance of our systems.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Quality Match team as we continue building the Embodied AI foundation models that will power the next generation of intelligent mobility.”

The 20-strong team will join Wayve’s global operations, expanding the London tech firm’s presence in the southwest German state known for its legendary contribution to the auto industry.

Wayve opened a site in the home state of Mercedes and Porsche in March of this year.

“At Quality Match, our mission has been to enhance data quality through advanced quality assurance and annotation optimisation. I’m incredibly proud of what our team has built,” said former Quality Match chief executive turned Wayve director of data Daniel Kondermann.

“Joining Wayve is an exciting opportunity to apply our expertise to one of the most exciting domains: autonomous driving. Together with Wayve’s pioneering approach to embodied intelligence, we can accelerate the development of safe and scalable AI.”
