How to get Apple TV Plus for free

Apple TV Plus is home to some of the biggest and arguably best TV series, including Severance, Ted Lasso and the newly released Pluribus.

However, with a typical monthly membership costing £9.99 / $12.99 a month, if you’re already signed up to the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus or Spotify then the thought of splurging on another subscription might fill you with dread – especially as December is a notoriously expensive month.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to nab Apple TV Plus for free or at a reduced price, at least for a limited period of time.

We’ve uncovered all the ways you can get Apple TV Plus for free or at least at a cheaper price, so you can finally catch up on all those series and films that you’ve missed.

Certain episodes are free for everyone

At the time of writing, you can watch the first episode of five Apple TV Plus original series completely free. All you need to do is either create or sign into your Apple ID, then you’re free to watch each episode without needing to sign up to any trial.

The series which have a free-to-watch first episode, at the time of writing, are:

  • Slow Horses
  • Down Cemetery Road
  • Pluribus
  • The Morning Show
  • The Last Frontier

Buy a new Apple product

This may not be the most economical way to get Apple TV Plus for free, but it certainly is an appealing perk if you’re already planning on buying a new Apple device. When buying certain Apple products such as a new iPhone, Mac, iPad or Apple TV 4K, then you’ll be entitled to three months of Apple TV Plus at no extra cost.

You don’t necessarily need to purchase your Apple device directly from Apple to benefit from this offer either. Many retailers such as EE, Three, O2 and Sky offer at least three-months free when either buying an Apple product outright or signing up for a contract.

Just keep in mind that only new and qualified returning subscribers are eligible for this offer and the plan will automatically renew at £9.99 / $12.99 a month unless it’s cancelled beforehand.

Never had Apple TV Plus before? Enjoy seven-days free

If you’ve never signed up to Apple TV Plus before then you’ll automatically benefit from a seven-day free trial, albeit with some caveats.

You will need to enter your payment information when signing up and, although you won’t be charged right away, you will after the seven-days are up. If you want to avoid this then we’d advise you to set a reminder to cancel the trial before the seven-days are finished.

Students get one month free

Overall, students get a pretty good deal for Apple TV Plus, and Apple Music too for that matter. Not only do you benefit from one-month free, but once that trial expires, students can use both Apple Music and Apple TV Plus for just £5.99 / $5.99 a month. That’s considerably cheaper than signing up for the two subscriptions separately.

Of course you will need to verify your student status, whether that’s via Unidays or with your university email address.

Utilise Apple One

In a similar vein, if you have multiple Apple subscriptions then it’s much more economical to bundle them together into an Apple One plan. Starting from £18.95 / $19.95 a month for an individual plan, you’ll have access to Apple TV Plus, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and 50GB of iCloud Storage.

Considering that individually Apple TV Plus and Apple Music would add up to £20.98 a month, an Apple One bundle is an easy way to save money.

Not only that, but new subscribers can also get one month free too, so that’s one less expense for the Christmas season.
