Telefónica makes its first offer for the ERE, and the unions reject it

Just a few days after announcing an ERE for seven of its subsidiaries, and communicating the layoff figures they foresee for each of them (in total, more than 6,000), the Telefónica Group has communicated the conditions of the employment regulation file for three of them. And although they are quite similar to those of the previous ERE of January 2024, the majority unions in the three main Telefónica companies have rejected them.

Thus, according to Europa Press, UGT, CCOO and Sumados-Fetico have rejected the first proposal for worker departures made by the Telefónica Group for Telefónica de España, Telefónica Móviles and Telefónica Soluciones. They are the companies that concentrate the bulk of the planned layoffs. In total, 5,040 of the 6,088 raised.

According to the conditions set forth, for workers born in 1969, 1970 and 1971, the compensation will be 68% of the regulatory salary until age 63, and 38% until age 65. Those born between 1965 and 1968 would have a compensation of 62% of the regulatory salary until age 63, and 34% until age 65. For those born in 1964 and 1965 the compensation will be 52% of the regulatory salary until age 63 and 34% until age 65.

This first proposal also includes an annual update of 1% of the regulatory salary in the second tranche, income reversibility, a special agreement up to age 63, basic health coverage and an extraordinary contribution to the pension plan, among other things.

But although these conditions are similar to those of the 2024 ERE, the unions consider them insufficient. In the case of UGT, its rejection is due to the fact that the company maintains the possibility of applying up to 5,040 forced dismissals. In addition, it eliminates the possibility of accepting voluntary requests in areas that have been classified as critical or not surplus.

UGT has already informed Telefónica that under these conditions, it would not be possible for them to reach an agreement to accept the ERE, which would prevent accepting any dismissal «for the employment guarantee in force in the III CEV«.

For Sumados-Fetico, which also rejects the proposal, it does not comply with the basic premises of universality and voluntariness that are necessary to reach an agreement. In addition, it points out that the proposal proposes the concentration of departures in the workforce born before 1972 and limits the areas considered as non-surplus.

As for CCOO, it requests, among other things, an increase in the percentage of the regulatory salary to be applied, and that the seniority necessary to qualify for the ERE be relative to the date on which the worker is going to leave, and not the date of accession.

Still It is unknown what the conditions of the ERE that the company will propose to the rest of its subsidiaries will be.which were not affected by the previous employment regulation file. It is likely that he will announce them in the next few hours, and they will probably be similar to those that he has proposed to his three companies most affected by the departures.
