A new rumor suggests that Samsung could solve at least one of the biggest complaints around the Z Fold series with the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

There’s a lot to love about Samsung’s foldable phones, but the battery isn’t one of them. However, in a recent post on X, leaker @Kro_roe claims that Samsung could both increase the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s battery capacity and up its wired charging speed to 45W, up from the current 25W limit.

The post doesn’t state what the increase in battery size could be. However, prior reports indicate that Samsung could push it as high as 5,000 mAh, a 600 mAh increase over the 4,400 mAh Samsung Z Fold 7. Admittedly, it’s still not as high as the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s 5,015 mAh battery. Foldables from Chinese phone makers (which unfortunately aren’t sold in the U.S.) can offer even larger batteries, like the huge 5,820 mAh capacity offered in the Honor Magic V5.

As for the charging speed, this is a logical move for Samsung. It already offers 45W charging for several other mobile devices, such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Samsung’s potential increase the battery capacity is certainly exciting, but it also raises some questions about how it plans to do so.

Like many manufacturers, Samsung’s phones feature a lithium-ion battery, which is dependable and efficient. The problem with them is that there’s only so thin that you can make the cells without sacrificing overall capacity. A problem for all smartphones, but especially foldables.

The alternative option is to use the newer silicon-carbon battery cells, which offer a greater power density. However, Samsung hasn’t adopted this tech yet, likely due to concerns around supply and longevity. We had heard rumors that Samsung was planning to launch the Galaxy S26 series with a silicon-carbon battery, so the same may be happening with the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

For now, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement of the phone before we know more, but it’s certainly an exciting time for foldable fans. On that note, let us know if this would be a change that would help you to pick up the next generation of Galaxy Z Fold, or is there more that you would like to see?
