Some of the internet’s most popular websites had issues in the early hours of Friday, Dec. 5 before a fix was rolled out by Cloudflare.

Cloudflare confirmed the outage at 4 a.m. ET before rolling out a fix half an hour later. The company said on its status page, “A fix has been implemented and we are monitoring the results.”

Soon after the fix, websites began to recover with Downdetector showing a steady decline in reported issues across the following half an hour. Services which had issues included Canva, Crunchyroll, DoorDash, LinkedIn, Ring, Zoom, and others.

Cloudflare’s networking issues continued with its status page confirming a problem on its Workers AI platform. However, those issues appear to be separate to the problems experienced by other websites.

This comes soon after a much longer outage in November impacted services such as ChatGPT, Uber, X, and more. That outage proved to be the company’s worst since 2019 with issues persisting across the internet throughout the day.

Cloudflare’s CEO soon after shared the issues came from a database issue where a “feature file” unintentionally doubled in size and was spread across its network causing its machines to struggle.

Cloudflare’s most recent issue on Dec. 5 appeared to be a much swifter fix. The brand has yet to share what happened.

Its status page explains how Cloudflare has works scheduled for today at both its Chicago and Detroit datacenters. It may be that those works were part of these issues.
