Knives Out, City of Shadows, Castle Rock: What’s New to Watch on Netflix the Week of Dec. 12, 2025
SHARE

Every week, Netflix unveils a ton of new content for subscribers to stream. Watching all of it would take you longer than your holiday break, so start your weekend with my three top movies and shows for the next seven days. December rolls on with some interesting stuff, including Rian Johnson’s third Knives Out movie, a cool-looking Spanish crime show, a Stephen King-based TV show, and more.

This Week on Netflix: PCMag’s Picks

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (Dec. 12)

I give Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig my personal permission to make as many Knives Out movies as they want. Craig’s absurd Detective Benoit Blanc is a modern-day Poirot, using deductive skill and wild personal charm to unravel twisted conspiracies of menace and murder. Wake Up Dead Man brings him into the world of religion, when a small-town priest is killed and he has to team up with his apprentice to clear his name.

City of Shadows (Dec. 12)

Spanish murder mystery City of Shadows looks atmospheric and thrilling. When a burning body is hung from the facade of Barcelona’s iconic La Pedrera building, disgraced police detective Milo Malart must return to the force and partner with a female deputy inspector to puzzle out the motive and perpetrator of the bizarre crime. Cool architecture and brutal murder? Sign me up.

  • Director: Jorge Torregrossa

  • Stars: Verónica Echegui, Manolo Solo, Isak Férriz

  • Genre: Drama

  • Rating: TV-MA

Castle Rock Seasons 1-2 (Dec. 16)

If you’ve been enjoying It: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max (and soon on Netflix, if the merger goes through) and want more Stephen King serialized horror, 2018 series Castle Rock might scratch that itch. It‘s Bill Skarsgård is in this as well as a prisoner at Shawshank State Prison, and the extensive cast also includes Carrie‘s Sissy Spacek, Tim Robbins, Lizzy Caplan, and more. It’s a solid spooky mystery with two seasons to binge.
