Are the developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 tired of winning yet? The RPG was named Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards, but it also won in nine out of the 11 categories for which it was nominated, making it the clear standout of 2025. To celebrate, the developers released a new, free DLC to thank fans for making the game a success.

When we reviewed Expedition 33 earlier this year, we highlighted its beautiful visuals, gorgeous soundtrack and voiceover work, and fun and frantic combat. It was a bit linear for our taste, and lacked some of the feature depth that other RPGs deliver, but it was an all-round fun time. And gamers seem to agree, emphatically.

This was the first game released from Sandfall Interactive, and it has a heartwarming storm behind it. The lead developer and founder, Guillaume Broche, left Ubisoft to create his dream Final-Fantasy-inspired project, and recruited friends and fans from Reddit, Artstation, and Soundcloud. They hired many fledgling developers who were just getting started in the industry, who poured a lot of passion into the game over the ensuing years.

In 2025, their efforts were rewarded with strong reviews, a rabid player base, and now, all the Game Awards awards they could ask for.

For Game of the Year, Expedition 33 beat out Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. But Expedition 33 also won Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Performance for Jennifer English as Maelle, Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Roleplaying Game. That’s about as strong a showing as anyone can hope for.

The Thank You DLC package is now available to all game owners and adds a playable environment, new music tracks, new boss battles for end-game players to take on, a new in-depth Photo mode with incredible control and nuance, and an exhaustive list of quality-of-life improvements and localization tweaks.

It’s a big, comprehensive update that has been welcomed by fans just as much as the game itself, which currently has over 81,000 reviews on Steam and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating.
