If you usually hang out on social networks and are even remotely interested in romantic productions, you have certainly heard of Heated Rivalry. The adaptation of the eponymous novel by Rachel Reid has not failed to make noise since its launch on November 28. But how did this small Canadian production, broadcast on the local platform Crave (and HBO Max in the United States), manage to fascinate the whole world in such a short time? The ingredients for this success are simple: take two rival ice hockey players, add a little forbidden love, a lot of passion and intimate scenes almost without any censorship to obtain an explosive cocktail that will turn the spectators’ heads. Here is the synopsis of the series:
“Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) are two of Major League Hockey’s biggest stars, united by ambition, rivalry and a magnetic attraction that neither fully understands. What begins as a secret affair between two promising young recruits turns into a years-long journey of love, denial, and self-discovery. Over the next eight years, the duo pursued glory on the ice while struggling to understand and come to terms with their feelings off the ice. Torn between the sport that gives their lives meaning and the love they can’t ignore, Shane and Ilya must decide if there is a place in their fiercely competitive world for something as fragile and powerful as true love.”
If this program intrigues you, know that you will finally be able to watch it on a platform available in France. HBO Max has just announced that the series will soon join its French catalog “shortly“, without further details regarding the exact release date.

Heated Rivalry is nothing revolutionary, but it is its execution that makes it such a dazzling phenomenon. Despite a lackluster storyline, the series shines thanks to surprising acting which allows spectators to become involved in a relationship burning with realism. This queer romance is not, however, to be enjoyed by everyone, because the staging (also very effective) in no way limits the intimacy between the two protagonists. A quick glance at the hot reactions on the networks is enough to understand thatHeated Rivalry refuses nothing to stand out from series of the genre. This audacity did not take long to bear fruit, since the series has already been renewed for a second season, while the broadcast of the first round of episodes is still in progress.
In what order should I read the books after the series?
Heated Rivalry is the second volume in a series of six novels. To simply follow the story of Shane and Ilya, the two protagonists of the series, only volumes 2 and 6 (Burning rivalry et The Long Game) are dedicated to them. The first volume, Sort the zonefocuses on the characters of Scott Hunter and Kip Grady, introduced in the third episode of the series. Unfortunately for French fans, only the first two novels of the saga have been translated and published. However, the global success of the series should not fail to unblock the situation.
