Though GM decided to drop Apple CarPlay (and Android Auto) from its vehicles a few years ago, it’s now rolling out native Apple Music support on select Cadillac and Chevrolet models.

The music-streaming service will be integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment system at no extra cost for eight years with the company’s OnStar Basics package on the following models:

Cadillac:

  • 2025 and 2026 CT5

  • 2025 Escalade IQ

  • 2026 Vistiq

Chevrolet:

  • 2025 and 2026 Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV

  • 2026 Corvette, Suburban, and Tahoe

Support for more models, including those from Buick, GMC, and the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, are “on the way,” GM says.

Drivers don’t have to do anything special to use Apple Music. The app will appear automatically on supported vehicles, and you can sign in from there. “New listeners can sign up with just a tap on the dashboard,” GM adds.

On the Cadillacs, Apple Music subscribers can tap into the platform’s library of Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos tracks, “transforming the cabin into an immersive, three-dimensional sound environment designed around the vehicle’s acoustics,” GM says.

GM dropped support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in 2023 to avoid designing features in “a way that are dependent on [a] person having a cellphone,” GM said at the time. An exec later argued that “stability issues” with both platforms can also result in lost connections. People then get distracted and take their eyes off the road trying to re-connect.

The decision didn’t sit well with some drivers. “I was in the market for a new vehicle, have had GMs my whole life but when I heard they were dropping CarPlay I looked elsewhere. Now I have a Toyota,” one Redditor wrote this week.

“Apple CarPlay is mandatory for me. “Let me know when they add CarPlay back, then I’ll maybe consider buying a GM,” wrote another.

Rivian has also avoided CarPlay in favor of its own in-car platform, but it too added native Apple Music support last year. Meanwhile, Tesla, which has its own touch-screen-based dash is rumored to be developing support for CarPlay.
