After panicking the Internet in 2023 with a simple gameplay trailer, Unrecord talked about him again. It has indeed reached a decisive milestone for the greatest happiness of those who dreamed of having it in their hands. The ultra-realistic FPS which uses a body cam, developed by French studio DRAMA, is officially entering full production thanks to funding from Tencent. A key step for a project which, at its beginnings, was almost a miracle as it was carried out by a tiny team and limited resources.

During the first presentation ofUnrecordthe game was only six months old and developed by two programmers working from their bedrooms, with no industry experience. However, the video instantly went viral on social networks. In question, its disturbing photorealism, its staging inspired by police body cams and its heavy atmosphere gave the impression of watching real intervention images. An aesthetic challenge that fascinated as much as worried.

Production with real means

Two years later, the project has evolved profoundly. As evidenced by the latest update shared by the studio on Steam, the team now has around ten developers and continues to recruit. Above all, Tencent’s financial support finally offers DRAMA the means to fully realize its vision. In its message to the community, the studio explains that it now has the budget to build the best possible game while keeping in mind the immense responsibility that accompanies this new phase of development.

This financing marks a strategic turning point. So far, Unrecord was advancing at a pace constrained by a lack of resources. From now on, the goal is to focus exclusively on production, without revealing unfinished content. The studio prefers to procrastinate and only promises significant updates from 2026, when the game will truly reflect its final vision.

Still as tense in terms of content and form

Good or bad news, Unrecord remains faithful to its initial ambition. The player plays a police officer faced with tense criminal investigations, in hostile environments where each exchange of fire is brutal, credible and very uncomfortable. The title boasts a narrative close to a thriller or detective novel, integrating moral dilemmas, complex dialogues and a deliberately realistic approach to gunplay. This extreme immersion, which made the game famous, fascinates by its technicality but is repellent by its brutal nature. As the question was asked in 2023, is witnessing a police raid or surveillance patrol anyone’s biggest dream?
