LG is rolling out a webOS update that adds a Microsoft Copilot app to some of its smart TVs, with reports indicating that the app is installed automatically and cannot be deleted once it appears on the home screen.

The update has been spotted on recent LG TV models running newer versions of webOS, where Copilot appears as a system-level app rather than an optional download.

According to multiple reports, the app remains present even after attempts to remove it, suggesting it is baked into the operating system as part of the firmware update rather than treated like a standard third-party application.

Copilot integration in webOS

Microsoft Copilot is an AI-powered assistant already available across Windows, Microsoft 365 and select mobile platforms. On LG TVs, the company has not yet published detailed information outlining how Copilot functions within webOS, or what tasks it is designed to handle on a television interface.

Based on its positioning on other platforms, Copilot typically provides conversational assistance, information lookup and content-related suggestions.

It is not currently clear whether the TV version integrates with LG’s voice assistant features, responds to remote-based input, or operates only when launched manually.

LG has also not clarified whether Copilot is enabled by default once installed, or whether users must explicitly open the app to interact with it. There is no official documentation explaining why the app cannot be removed, or whether future updates may change how it is handled within the operating system.

LG has previously used webOS updates to introduce new interface elements and services across supported models, though availability often varies by region, model year and operating system version. At this stage, LG has not confirmed which TV models are receiving the Copilot app, nor whether the rollout is global or limited to certain markets.

There is also no official statement on data handling specific to Copilot on webOS, beyond LG’s existing privacy policies for its smart TV platform and Microsoft’s standard Copilot terms.

The update appears to be rolling out gradually, and LG has not announced whether Copilot will remain a permanent part of webOS going forward or if users will be given additional control options in future releases.
