IF you’re planning to watch the footy with some leftovers after Christmas Day, there are ways to keep the cost down – if you know where to look.

Here, we reveal the cheapest ways to catch the action live – and a reminder of the big changes to the festive football fixtures that you need to know about.

This year, in a huge break from tradition, Manchester United vs Newcastle is the only Boxing Day game to be broadcast.

The rest of the gameweek is split between Saturday, Sunday and Monday, like a normal Prem weekend.

#1 Day Pass

If you’re only planning to watch the one Boxing Day game between Manchester United and Newcastle then a day pass is the best value for you – and you can squeeze in a second big game out of it too.

Sky Sports will air the match at 8pm, so you can get a day pass from Sky’s streaming partner Now (formerly known as Now TV).

The £15 Now Sports Day membership grants you access to all of Sky Sport’s channels for 24 hours from the moment you subscribe.

If you subscribe close to 8pm on the day, you can effectively stretch your membership out until 8pm the next day, meaning you can catch Chelsea vs Aston Villa at 5:30pm on Saturday if you want.

#2 Secret offer

If you want to watch the full slate of Premier League games available from Sky, there’s a secret offer for only a fiver more than the day membership.

And it might be worth signing up to this deal long-term if fancy watching more games too.

A monthly pass usually costs £34.99 on Now, but there’s a way to slash the cost to £19.99 instead.

This is available for up to six months.

And the key trick is you can cancel this plan at anytime.

So if you want all of the Christmas period games and much of January’s, you can subscribe to this and cancel before the month renews.

Or, you can enjoy six month’s worth for £19.99 a month.

But this offer isn’t advertised, there’s a hidden trick to unlock it.

Go to the Now website and select Day Membership.

The offer will then popup, offering six months for £19.99.

#3 TNT Sports

TNT Sports doesn’t show as many games as Sky but there’s one around Christmas.

You can watch Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City on Saturday at 12:30pm.

TNT Sports via Discovery+ costs £30.99, but it’s possible to add TNT Sports onto your mobile for a discount on some networks.

With O2, it’s £26.99 a month with a £2 airtime discount applied, effectively making it £24.99.

EE has Inclusive Extras on some plans which allow you to add TNT Sports for free.

If you already have a different Inclusive Extra selected (such as Netflix) not to worry, you can switch them every month.
