Questions have been raised about the Trump Organization’s “Made in USA” smartphone after a number of industry experts suggested it may be made in China. Recently, the Trump Organization made a high-profile entry into the smartphone market, launching a device priced at $499 that Eric Trump, the US president’s second son, said reflected Donald Trump’s goals of reviving US manufacturing and creating American jobs. However, Todd Weaver, CEO of Purism, which is the only US company known to fully assemble smartphones domestically, told CNN that he believes that the device is actually produced by Chinese company Wingtech. In the wake of CNN’s initial report on the phone’s origins on June 17th, the Trump Organization has revised its messaging on the device’s website, removing the “Made in USA” label and replacing it with phrases such as “American-Proud Design” and “Born in USA,” without disclosing the actual location or full details of the gold-colored phone’s production.
