Meta has reached an agreement to Buy the startup Manusbased in Singapore, which is dedicated to the development of AI agents. The objective that Mark Zuckerberg pursues with this operation is provide general-purpose AI agents to your social networks: Facebook, Instagram and Threads. They will also come to WhatsApp and Meta AI, as well as the company’s other business products.
Manus, founded recently and already has recurring revenues exceeding $100 million, is responsible for selling AI agents for companies through subscriptions. These agents are capable of performing different general tasks, such as summaries of what appears on the screen at a given time, generating travel routes or analyzing the stock market. All from basic instructions that are communicated to the agent.
Manus’ parent company Butterfly Effect, founded in China before moving to its current headquarters in Singapore, held a funding round earlier this year, putting its valuation at nearly $500 million.
Once the purchase operation is closed, Meta will continue operating and selling the service offered by Manus. In addition to keeping its assets, Meta is going to incorporate part of its management into the company, although it is unknown in which area or work groups they will work from now on.
Manus CEO Xiao Hong is one of them, and he has commented that the agreement will allow the Manus team to expand the reach of its agents. However, Meta has confirmed that it will allow the company to continue operating independently.
The operation has generated a certain stir in the United States, since due to its creation and origins, Manus had Chinese investors. But Meta has already confirmed that Once the purchase of the startup is closed, it will no longer have investment from that country.
