If you’ve been hearing strange noises while charging your iPhone 17 Pro, you’re not alone. Many 17 Pro and Pro Max users are reporting a hissing sound coming from their smartphones.

According to users on Reddit and the Apple Community forum, the old radio-like noise isn’t coming from the USB-C cable or the wall adapter; it’s coming from the bottom speakers.

One user notes that the noise can be heard quite clearly if you plug your phone in to charge, play audio or video, and turn the volume all the way down. Without playing the audio, the hissing sound is a bit more subtle, they noted.

As MacRumors reports, users tried swapping Apple’s cables and adapters for third-party alternatives, but the issue persisted. Wireless charging with MagSafe chargers doesn’t solve the problem, either. The user who complained about MagSafe also got their phone replaced, only to be greeted by the same hiss on their brand-new unit.

In October, a 17 Pro Max user noted on Apple’s forum that the sound is also audible when launching the Camera app while the device is charging. They contacted an Apple Support engineer, who ran diagnostics to confirm it wasn’t a hardware problem. The engineer also mentioned that Apple is aware of the issue and plans to fix it with a future software update.

Several iOS 26 updates have rolled out since then, and a fix hasn’t appeared yet. We reached out to Apple for comment.

The iPhone 17 Pro has faced other issues since launch, including scratches, a color change on the orange model, and failure to connect to Wi-Fi. Apple provided guidelines to avoid the first two issues and rolled out a fix with iOS 26.0.1 for the third.
