Let’s start this post with a disclaimer. I absolutely love my Samsung Freestyle projector. It’s ace. It sits by my bed and provides ample 100-inch late night movie action, but it’s has also been up and down the US with me. It’s a perfect compact AV companion.
So the news Samsung is upgrading its Freestyle (2nd Gen) significantly is bittersweet. I love that it’s getting better, but am I going to want to upgrade? Judging by today’s announcement I’m going to have to prize open my wallet.
The new Samsung Freestyle+, which is coming to CES 2026, doubles the brightness of its predecessor. It offers 430 ISO lumens while also offering support for Samsung’s Q-Symphony tech that means it’ll work with Samsung’s soundbars. That’s neither here nor there for those without Samsung’s soundbars, but there’s still 360-degree audio from the device itself thanks to the totally tubular speakers.
What other improvements can we expect? Well, for better or worse, they’re AI-based. Samsung is calling it AI Optiscreen. And the benefits are as follows:
- 3D Auto Keystone automatically corrects distortion even when projecting onto uneven or non-flat surfaces, such as corners, curtains or angled walls.
- Real-time Focus continuously adjusts focus as the projector moves or rotates, helping maintain clear, stable images without blurring or visual noise.
- Screen Fit automatically adjusts the image to match the screen area when used with a compatible projector screen accessory.
- Wall Calibration analyses the colour or pattern of the projection surface and minimises visual distractions for clearer viewing.
Samsung is also promising a Vision AI companion that uses Bixby to integrate with streaming services worldwide “to enable more natural, conversational interaction with on-screen content.”
“The Freestyle+ reflects Samsung’s vision to create displays that adapt naturally to how people live and move between spaces,” said Hun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By combining true portability with intelligent AI that optimises both the viewing environment and the content itself, The Freestyle+ makes it easier to enjoy a consistent, high-quality experience wherever you are.”
Samsung is planning to showcase the device at CES 2026 next week with information about availability enabled.
