ByteDance builds more than 1,000 robots with long-term goal of embodied intelligence: report · TechNode

ByteDance has produced more than 1,000 robots in two and a half years, with its robotics R&D team expanding to around 150 members, according to an exclusive report by LatePost on Wednesday. The team’s long-term goal is to achieve embodied intelligence, the report stated. ByteDance’s current production focuses on wheeled logistics robots, or Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), developed for the indoor transport of various materials. Unlike sorting robots, these AMRs lack robotic arms and are used to move parcels and components across warehouses and production lines. ByteDance primarily deploys them in its own operations, such as at Douyin (TikTok) e-commerce warehouses, and has also begun serving external clients including SF Express and BYD Electronics, where the robots are used to move parts and finished products within the companies’ production bases.
