A HI-TECH knife that takes the effort out of chopping in the kitchen has been revealed – and I tried it out.

Everyone has experienced the hassle of cutting through tough veg and potatoes.

But a company called Seattle Ultrasonics wants to make that a problem of the past with its new C-200 knife.

The firm claims it is the world’s first ultrasonic chef’s knife.

It works by sending ultrasonic energy vibrations through the blade over 40,000 times per second.

You won’t be shaking around nor will you feel anything at all as you hold the handle.

Speaking to The Sun, the company said the C-200 means you’ll need up to 50 per cent less force.

I felt dubious but having tried the knife out I actually think it required even less push than that.

It looks like any other knife except there is a button.

As you go to chop, press and hold the button to start the ultrasonic energy.

I tried it on a potato and was astonished by how easy and effortless it was.

I would compare it to cutting through a banana.

Another plus for me is that it works fine for left handed people just as it does for right handers.

My only concern is it’s so good, what happens if I have an accident and cut myself?

Seattle Ultrasonics argues that the C-200 actually makes cutting safer because you’re applying less force and can therefore maintain more control than an ordinary knife.

“An ultrasonic knife isn’t inherently more dangerous than any other sharp kitchen knife,” the firm says.

“You still have to be careful (it is a sharp blade!)”

The knife is cordless and relies on a removable battery pack that you can recharge with a USB-C port – though there is a Wireless Charging Tile you can buy separately.

As for the blade itself, it’s a Japanese AUS-10 san mai steel stainless steel.

However, the C-200 doesn’t come cheap, costing $399 / £295 for the knife or $499 / £367 for a bundle with the Wireless Charging Tile.
