FREELY is an increasingly popular way to watch telly for free – but where can you get it?
If you’re trying to hunt down the Freeview replacement, you’ve got loads of options.
WHAT IS FREELY?
Freely is a new way to watch telly – and it’s totally free.
Instead of requiring aerials or dishes, you simply stream TV over the internet.
It debuted in 2024, and is the creation of Everyone TV, which is a joint venture between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5.
And it’s expected to eventually replace Freeview, although Freeview still exists for now.

You can use Freely to watch live telly as well as on-demand content.
And there’s a regular TV guide that lets you browse telly.
The catch is that not all TVs and streaming devices support Freely, so you’ll need to have the right model.
WHAT CHANNELS ARE ON FREELY?
There are dozens of channels available to watch on Freely right now.

Freely says that you’ll receive up to seven “relevant local services” between channels 612 and 618 that “vary depending on your region”.
WHERE CAN I WATCH FREELY?
The first thing you need – which you likely have – is a Wi-Fi connection.
It works over the internet, so you don’t need a dish or an aerial, but you do need a decent internet connection.
Freely says you need download speeds of at least 10Mbps. That’s well below the national average, but you can check your own by going on Speedtest.org or Fast.com.
It’s also worth mentioning that you’ll need a TV licence because you’re watching broadcast telly.
For Freely, there are two main options.
The broadest selection of Freely devices are TVs that already have the service built in.
Brands that are currently offering Freely TVs include:
- Hisense
- Pansonic
- Toshiba
- Sharp
- TCL
The support for Freely will be included on the telly’s description.
Freely says that you can bag these models from the likes of:
- Currys
- Argos
- AO
- Very
- John Lewis
The other option is by plugging in a Freely streaming box.
At the time of writing, there’s only one model available: the Netgem Pleio.
But it works like an Amazon Fire TV Stick or Sky box, in that you plug it into the back of your TV to access the service.
