The year 2023 marked a real turning point for Godzilla. The iconic monster of Japanese pop culture took spectators around the world by surprise with Godzilla Minus Onethe now famous feature film by Takashi Yamazaki. Despite an initial release limited to a few days in a few cinema chains around the world, this film quickly established itself as a global hit, to the point of extending its presence in international theaters. This surprise success ended up raking in no less than $113 million at the box office on a budget of only $15 million. Enough to make it the most profitable Godzilla film to date.

It is therefore no surprise that a sequel was quickly ordered, and it has not stopped providing news lately. On the occasion of Godzilla Day which took place on November 3, Toho lifted the veil on the title of the film and its release window: Godzilla Minus Zero will be released in 2026. But today, we finally find out the exact release date of the film. In Japan, the appointment is set for the next Godzilla Day, namely November 3, 2026. The broadcast in North America will take place from November 6, 2026, which means that French theaters should welcome the film from November 4, 2026.

This simultaneous worldwide release is a first for a Japanese Godzilla production, a feat that Toho considers a major milestone for the international exposure of the franchise.

What do we know about the project a few months before its release?

For now, the project is keeping many secrets, particularly regarding its storyline. When the title was announced, early theories imagined a potential remake of the very first Godzilla film. But the presence of several members of the cast of Godzilla Minus One as well as the use of settings still located in post-war Japan seem to refute these assumptions.

The only element officially confirmed to date is the return of Takashi Yamazaki to directing and special effects. We nevertheless hope that this sequel will take care to introduce other kaijus, or at least another kaiju, in order to discover Godzilla facing another creature on the big screen. We start the bets: which of Mothra, Ghidrah or even Mechagodzilla will potentially be in the game? Personally, we would like to bet on Mothra and Mechagodzilla.
