The OnePlus Open 2 foldable smartphone has been cancelled, after a couple of years of enthusiasts waiting on the sequel, according to a new report.

A noted leaker says OnePlus has permanently shelved plans to drop a sequel to the 2023 foldable. In a post on X over the weekend, Yogesh Brar (via Smartprix) wrote: “Another product getting cancelled is the OnePlus Open 2.”

That’s a shame. The OnePlus Open was an excellent first stab at a foldable from OnePlus. Even from launch it was the best foldable around. It was cheaper, more stylish and had better cameras with flagship performance and battery life.

A year on from its launch our updated review concluded: “The finest foldable around at launch, and still impressive today. The OnePlus Open costs less than major rivals yet bests them on styling and camera ability. It’s a few small steps from perfection.”

Now, the plans for a release in the second half of 2026 have been dropped, according to the leak. That’s quite unfortunate considering the rumours about this phone being a significant update and not just an iterative update.

It was said to offer an 8.12-inch 2K open display with a 6.6-inch AMOLED cover display. Both of which were planned for a 165Hz refresh rate, making it a nice option for gamers. Furthermore, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 had been recruited to do the heavy lifting with 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage and a large 6,000mAh battery. The cameras would have continued to be a highlight with a 50-megapixel triple sensor. Significantly, the phone was also tipped for 50W wireless charging support.

The cancellation mightn’t be the worst news in the world, considering the majority of the tech may make its way into the forthcoming Oppo Find N6 smartphone. Oppo and OnePlus fall under the same parent company with lots of overlapping tech. Keep your eyes peeled for that one.
