The popular thriller Hijack starring Idris Elba returns today with season two on Apple TV. Whereas the first season saw negotiator Sam Nelson trapped on a plane, season two uses a different mode of transport for its setting, namely a train on the Berlin underground.
Like much of Hijack, you have to suspend your disbelief at the circumstances, but if you can, there’s a thrill ride of action ahead. The eight-episode second season starts today, January 14, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
With that release schedule, the finale will air on March 4, so if you want to binge the series in one go, wait until then.
While the story of the season should satisfactorily conclude in those eight episodes, the creators have teased they have some ideas about a a third and final season as a follow-up, possibly as a movie. Obviously, that depends on how well season two performs on the platform.
Critical reviews for Hijack are somewhat mixed, with the stylish action sequences balanced out by the increasingly-ludicrous story lines.
Nevertheless, the series seemed to garner a lot of viewership during season one in 2023. It became the second Apple TV original to make an appearance on the Nielsen US streaming chart. At the time, only the behemoth of Ted Lasso had achieved that for the service.
Like all Apple originals, you can watch with an Apple TV subscription. You can use the Apple TV app available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV set-top box, Android phones and tablets, Windows, PlayStation, Xbox and more. You can also get Apple TV through Amazon Prime Video, or as part of the Apple One bundle.
