A water distribution network is essential to guarantee access to drinking water. Problem is, maintaining the network can have a certain cost for local authorities. The problem also arises for local municipalities in Japan. The Wota start-up may have just develop the perfect solution to overcome this problem.
Wota wastewater recycling unit to relieve Japanese rural communities
A Japanese family of four consumes almost 800 liters of water per day. Recycling therefore appears to be an essential solution, particularly for rural communities struggling to maintain their distribution network. A population flight to larger cities means fewer people to pay water bills and therefore to take care of the network.
Wota, a Japanese start-up, has developed Wota Box, a portable machine capable of recycle up to 98% of a home’s wastewater.
« With just 100 liters of water, WOTA’s proprietary water recycling technology can regenerate approximately 98%* on site, allowing up to 100 people to take turns showering. Even in evacuation centers where municipal water and sewer services are unavailable and people must rely on emergency water deliveries, this system allows for repeated use of water, a valuable resource, providing cleanliness and warmth to many people. », says Wota.
The company assures that the Wota unit does not require any special skills to install. The system must be connected to the pipes before plugging in the electrical outlet and turning on the unit. Wota assures that two adults and 15 minutes are enough to get everything up and running. The autonomous system does not leave the user to his own devices once launched.
« The front screen of the WOTA BOX clearly indicates when the filter needs to be replaced and guides users through the replacement steps at a glance, allowing everyone to complete this task easily. Additionally, IoT sensors continuously monitor water quality to ensure a safe and reliable water supply at all times. », Specifies the start-up.
Several municipalities in Akita Prefecture, in northern Japan, have begun testing the Wota unit. Hydraloop offers a fairly similar wastewater recycling solution.
