Samsung is now testing One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy M55s, suggesting that one of its most affordable smartphones is set to get the company’s latest software upgrade.

The firmware, spotted on Samsung’s servers under version M558BXXU2DZA7, confirms that development is underway and brings the device closer to a public release.

Last month, Samsung introduced One UI 8.5, based on Android 16 QPR2, for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The software is currently in beta testing for the Galaxy S25 series and is expected to debut officially with the upcoming Galaxy S26 range.

Once that rollout begins, Samsung will extend the update to other eligible devices across its Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, Galaxy A and Galaxy M line‑ups.

The Galaxy M55s is the latest addition to that list. Firmware evidence shows Samsung has started internal testing, which is a strong indicator that the budget‑friendly handset will soon benefit from the same interface improvements as the company’s premium models.

One UI 8.5 introduces a more refined design compared to One UI 8.0, with smoother navigation and enhanced customisation options. Samsung has also added new features aimed at improving convenience, though the full list of changes will only be confirmed once the update is released.

Early previews highlight improvements in multitasking, privacy controls and system performance, aligning with Samsung’s broader push to unify the user experience across its product portfolio.

The Galaxy M series has long been positioned as Samsung’s entry‑level offering, making updates like this particularly significant. Affordable devices often lag behind in software support, but Samsung’s decision to test One UI 8.5 on the M55s demonstrates its commitment to extending modern features to a wider audience.

While no official release date has been announced, firmware testing typically precedes a staged rollout within weeks. UK users can expect the update to arrive once Samsung completes beta testing on its flagship devices.
