Sony has confirmed that it will unveil a new version of its WH-1000XM6 over-ear headphones this week, expanding its 1000X lineup alongside the already announced WF-1000XM6 wireless earbuds.
Last week, Sony revealed that the WF-1000XM6 earbuds will debut today, February 12 at 16:00 UTC, signalling a coordinated refresh of its premium noise-cancelling audio range.
Sony has now shared a teaser across its social media channels that shows what appears to be a pair of over-ear headphones concealed beneath a pink fabric, strongly suggesting an imminent WH-1000XM6 announcement.
The WH-1000XM6 originally launched in May 2025 and currently retails for around $398, positioning it as a flagship over-ear model within Sony’s competitive noise-cancelling category.
Since launch, Sony has offered the WH-1000XM6 in Black, Midnight Blue and Platinum Silver, maintaining a similar colour strategy to previous generations in the series.
Industry leaker Roland Quandt recently indicated that Sony planned to introduce a Sandpink variant, and the new teaser imagery aligns closely with that earlier claim.
Likely a colour refresh rather than new hardware
The WF-1000XM6 could also be available in a Sandpink finish, extending Sony’s recent shift toward fashion-led colour updates within its premium audio lineup rather than introducing immediate hardware changes.
Sony’s teaser does not reference updated specifications or performance changes, which suggests that the upcoming WH-1000XM6 release may focus on a new colourway rather than a hardware revision.
The WH-1000XM6 already competes with premium rivals by offering active noise cancellation, multipoint Bluetooth connectivity and extended battery life, so a mid-cycle hardware update would be unusual.
Manufacturers commonly use colour refreshes to extend product lifecycles without altering acoustic tuning or chipset architecture, particularly when the underlying model remains commercially successful.
Sony has not disclosed pricing or availability details for the teased WH-1000XM6 variant, though the timing suggests an announcement alongside the WF-1000XM6.
Further details, including regional availability and confirmed colour naming, are expected during Sony’s scheduled launch event later today.
