First shown off at CES 2026, Alienware’s refreshed lineup of gaming laptops will go on sale today, March 17. This update brings dazzling OLED display options back into the mix, adds beefed-up Intel Core Ultra 200HX Plus (“Arrow Lake Refresh”) processors to speed things up, and introduces some key thermal upgrades. The refreshed Alienware 16 Area-51, Alienware 18 Area-51, and Alienware 16X Aurora are all set to be competitive laptops in their respective classes.
Both 16-inch models (the Alienware 16 Area-51 and 16X Aurora) feature those premium anti-glare OLED screens we saw back in January, marking the brand’s clamored-for return to OLED tech for its gaming laptops. The Alienware 18 Area-51 model doesn’t feature the same display boost, but it gains the same refreshed “Arrow Lake” Core Ultra 200HX Plus-series silicon upgrades from Intel.
Amped-Up ‘Arrow Lake Refresh’ Processors Decloak
Intel hasn’t shared much about what to expect from its new 200HX Plus chips, so we’ll have to test them when we get each laptop in for review. Both of Alienware’s flagship Area-51 models come with the choice of a new 24-core Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, last year’s 24-core Core Ultra 9 275HX, a new 20-core Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus, or the 2025 Core Ultra 7 255HX (also 20 cores) to power the laptop.
The two new HX Plus processors are rated to run at a slightly higher maximum clock speed than their 2025 counterparts, boosted by 100MHz. The Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus runs at 5.5GHz, versus the Ultra 9 275HX’s 5.4GHz. Likewise, the Ultra 7 270HX Plus caps out at 5.3GHz, versus the Ultra 7 255HX’s 5.2GHz.

Dell offers five graphics options across both Area-51 models, from the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 at the top to the RTX 5060 at the bottom, with every choice in between. You can also choose DDR5 memory options ranging from 16GB of RAM to 64GB.
The midrange Alienware 16X Aurora contains either an Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX or the Core Ultra 9 275HX, plus a third option (Intel Core Ultra 5 235HX) for starting configurations. You’ve got two graphics options with the 16X Aurora: an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060, or an RTX 5070. The 16X Aurora supports the same RAM range as the Area-51 models.
The Bigger Reason to Get Excited: OLED Screens
All three models have the same native screen resolution (2,560 by 1,600 pixels), but each has slightly different screen options and details. The 18-inch Area-51, for one, is rated for a speedy 300Hz peak refresh rate, while the two 16-inch models stick to a still-quick 240Hz.
The Aurora 16X is available only with an OLED panel, while the 16-inch Area-51 is sold in either LCD or OLED versions. Anti-glare tech, which Alienware/Dell is pushing, isn’t available on the LCD version of the Aurora 16X, but it is included by default with both OLED screen options.

We tried out the anti-glare tech during CES 2026. Principal writer Matthew Buzzi said, “…the new anti-glare panel is much less reflective. It doesn’t deflect glare quite as well as a matte screen does, but it also looks better than a true matte display. Even in an event space with overhead lighting, the screen doesn’t reflect nearly as much as a glossy screen, while still looking OLED-sweet.”

More Power to Tap? Pumped-Up Thermals Aim to Keep Up
Other key features on the top-end Alienware Area-51 models include improved power profiles: the 18-inch model can tap into up to 280 watts (280W), and the 16-inch model has up to 240W available to it.
Dell also updated all of its Alienware laptops’ next-generation thermal cooling technology, which it dubs “Cryo-Chamber.” The claims here are that the tweaks improve airflow by up to 35% and also make it up to 15% quieter than previous models. This, according to Dell, is thanks to larger fans than on previous iterations, with the 18-inch laptop spinning up a 20% larger Cryo-Chamber fan than its predecessor.

The design of each new model is similar to what we’ve grown used to, but the brand is dubbing its latest changes “Alienware 30” to celebrate the brand’s birthday later this year. This includes a new hinge design and a rounding-off of the chassis edges.
Dell has yet to share pricing for each of these new laptops. That’s coming at 11 a.m. ET today (Tuesday, March 17), when each of these new models goes on sale. Come back for fully tested reviews of these laptops in the coming weeks.
