Insta360 has launched a new accessory that’s trying to fix one of the biggest annoyances of smartphone photography – using the rear camera for selfies without guessing your framing.

The Snap Selfie Screen is a small add-on. It effectively turns your iPhone’s main cameras into a proper front-facing setup.

The idea is simple. Snap magnetically attaches to the back of your phone and plugs into the USB-C port. It gives you a live preview of what the rear cameras see. You can skip the front camera entirely and shoot selfies or videos using the higher-quality main sensors.

If you’ve used similar accessories before, this follows the same plug-and-play approach. Insta360 is clearly leaning into ease of use. There’s no battery inside, so it draws power directly from your phone. It also works straight out of the box with the default camera app.

Where things get more interesting is app support. It isn’t just limited to Apple’s camera; it also works with platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat. This makes it a more practical option for creators who shoot directly inside social apps.

Compatibility is fairly broad, too. Insta360 says Snap works with the iPhone 15 and newer models. It also works with Android devices, as long as they support USB-C.

There are two versions available. The standard model comes in at $79.99. A slightly pricier option ($89.99) adds a built-in ring light with adjustable colour temperature. This is a small upgrade, but one that could make a difference for low-light shooting or quick content on the go.

It’s a straightforward idea, but a useful one. For anyone who regularly flips their phone around to get better-looking shots, Snap removes a lot of the guesswork. It also makes the iPhone’s best cameras a lot easier to use.
