The German company Neura Robotics has set itself big goals. As CEO David Reger revealed in an interview last year, robots could be helping out in every household with everyday tasks in just a few years. Now the company is taking an important step towards achieving this vision. They want to create a “gym” for said robots.

Robots in the Robogym in Munich

As the company announced in a press release, Neura Robotics is cooperating with MIRMI, the Munich Institute of Robotics and Machine Intelligence, and the Technical University of Munich. Together they build the so-called Robogym at Munich Airport – more precisely in the TUM Convergence Center. Together, Neura Robotics and TUM are investing 17 million euros in the construction of the Robogym. Neura Robotics is taking a share of eleven million euros.

A fleet of humanoid robots will train on an area of around 2,300 square meters from mid-2026 and thus provide valuable data. The robots will carry out movement sequences under real conditions by being controlled by human operators. According to TUM, the general problem with AI-controlled robots is that the models behind them cannot access vast amounts of data. And simulations would be too imprecise to provide reliable data.

Editorial recommendations

Achim Lilienthal, deputy director of MIRMI, says: “That’s why we need training centers where people can teach robots individual skills, such as folding a box or assembling components. In the Robogym, robots will learn general skills that they can independently apply to specific tasks.”

Neura CEO David Reger adds: “The biggest challenge to progress in robotics is no longer the hardware, but access to high-quality, realistic training data. Together with TUM, we are building the Robogym, which gives partners and developers access to real-world training via the Neuraverse, enabling cognitive robots to learn safely and scale their skills faster.” The Neuraverse is the company’s learning platform that “connects robots, people and data” and is intended to enable the creation of digital twins or the use of various AI models.
