Motives of use
According to Bitkom, the motives for using AI can be divided into three distinctive roles:
58 percent want to save time, 32 percent want to avoid errors.
One in two people use AI to better understand complex topics or learn new things.
Almost half are inspired by AI to come up with more creative ideas or use it to improve the quality of their work.
But despite all the enthusiasm for AI, the joy is not entirely unsullied. Germans’ biggest fear is the spread of misinformation, followed by a lack of control over technology. There is also a massive geopolitical component: 72 percent of those surveyed see Germany as too dependent on the USA.
A concern that, according to Bitkom, is entirely justified, as the market is dominated by US giants. ChatGPT (71 percent), Gemini (50 percent) and Microsoft Copilot (43 percent) are the undisputed leaders, while European alternatives such as Mistral (4 percent) hardly play a role.
