The meeting experienced therefore involves dealing with the question: “What was the trigger for the escalation in the project meeting?” profitable. Recognizing this “breaking point” creates solutions. The attention is drawn like a magnifying glass to one’s own retrospect. In the truest sense of the word, a look inside without judging. Hence the term self-reflection, which is used synonymously.
Reflecting can sensitize us to connections and solutions both professionally and privately. In agile organizational structures, good reflection discussions help to accelerate process or product development, for example. Psychologically, reflecting marks methods and processes related to thinking, learning our perception, problem solving and analysis from different perspectives. Reflective questions allow a better understanding of our levels of consciousness and reflective conversations make emotions, motives and obstacles visible.
Digitalization is accelerating the flood of information everywhere and causing our stressed minds. Here we can regain more sovereignty with distance and calm. In this desire for peace, mindfulness and the principles of Buddhism are very important. Buddhism focuses on reflection as a central skill in mind control.
With a little calm after the escalated meeting, the question can also be asked: “What would have been desirable behavior from me or the alternative?” be helpful. Every behavior, including our own, influences a situation. The focus is on recognizing the factual facts and events. Accurate understanding allows for less stress than not understanding.
Reflection – goals and requirements
The reward of reflection: You gain a solution orientation for improvements and avoid dead ends. In our example, the project discussion remains solution-oriented, gains a broader perspective and does not remain as a noticeable defeat. Because the non-judgmental approach represents learning potential and not a sum of mistakes, as their thinking always remains strong in implementation and ready for change. But self-regulation also relieves stress, as reflection turns haste into time and stress and strain become controllable.
