If you’re wondering why the new Sony headphones have such a strange name, it’s because they’re the tenth anniversary edition of the WH-1000 series. With the 1000X The Collection, Sony wants to top off the series in celebration. And the price that the manufacturer offers is also royal: the 1000X The Collexion costs 630 euros, which is more than the AirPods Max from Apple.
The workmanship meets the high expectations that the price creates: the exterior is made of high-quality artificial leather and metal. The sister model WH-1000XM6, on the other hand, looks like a plastic bomber. The ear cups can be screwed in, but cannot be folded, which contributes to the robust impression. The Sony headphones match the luxurious appearance of the AirPods Max. For transport, Sony includes a fabric-covered case with a practical carrying handle.
Although the ear cups of the 1000X The Collexion are a few millimeters flatter than those of the sister model, there is more space underneath. This makes it more comfortable to wear over longer periods of time. Much of the control is done via a touch surface on the right ear cup. The power switch and two multifunction buttons are on the other side.
