Digitalization is omnipresent. In order to always stay “up to date” and competitive, companies must constantly reinvent themselves: optimize systems, streamline processes and reduce costs. However, corporate visions and their implementation are often far apart. The Target Operating Model was created as a connecting piece.

Target Operating Model – Definition

The Target Operating Model or in German “target operating model” helps companies to define and implement future optimization strategies. The strategies vary in complexity and level of detail. The target operating model forms the bridge between a development idea and its implementation in the existing organizational structures (employees, processes and technology) of a company.

The idea of the model is to close gaps and optimize processes by analyzing the current state (“as is”) in order to achieve the specified target state (“to be”). The individual steps (milestones) on the way to the goal are recorded in a so-called roadmap. The motto is: The journey is the destination.
