While its predecessor still toiled in body construction, Figure 03 now takes on a key role in logistics: so-called sequencing. In this application, the robot sorts components from large containers into special sequencing carts. These carts are then delivered “just in sequence” directly to the employees on the assembly line. A process that occurs millions of times in the automotive industry and offers enormous scaling opportunities.
Figure 03 talks to colleagues
Figure 03 is more communicative than its older brothers. Thanks to new audio functions, it masters speech-to-speech communication. To further increase safety in the working environment, it was also equipped with soft components. A wireless charging function ensures smooth operation and is intended to significantly increase availability.
As I said, the figure tests are not individual projects, but rather part of the iFactory strategy. For example, in the modernized assembly hall 52, where the electric BMW iX5 will also roll off the assembly line in the future, the entire production will be simulated virtually in 3D in advance. This virtual factory helps optimize processes and perfect ergonomics for human colleagues even before the first part is physically moved.
