To secure the transactions of AI agents, the Trusted Agent Protocol (TAP), developed together with Cloudflare, and a special agent directory are used. The features are intended to help merchants securely identify verified AI agents across different platforms and environments and distinguish trusted from unverified access. At the same time, the payment service provider says, merchants retain control over how agents access their websites, view products and complete transactions.
According to Visa, a new retail infrastructure is not required for this. TAP can work with existing e-commerce protocols that merchants can seamlessly integrate with their preferred platforms. The implementation is supported by infrastructure providers such as Cloudflare and Akamai.
