Hyundai has declined two vehicles: the Ioniq 5, in the style inspired by the 80s, and the Ioniq 6, a sedan that puts on efficiency by slightly evoking Porsche (a little). Ioniq 9 closes the trilogy. He arrives on the market two years after the Kia EV9, his counterpart. But if the other electric family SUV is already on our roads, the Ioniq 9, it was still only a static model during its presentation.
Extraordinary dimensions
Many debates take place around the electric car. It must be said that consumers are looking for a 1 to 1 report with their thermal vehicle. A ratio impossible to reach, because technologies differ, causing specific uses with them.
The market therefore offers “equivalents”. But the transition from thermal to electric implies industrial constraints. Thus, Ioniq 9, seeking to imitate 7 -seater minivans, adopts extraordinary proportions:
- 5 060 mm de long
- 3,130 mm of wheelbase
- 1 980 mm de large
- 1 790 mm the skin
In such a volume, you benefit from a choice of 6 or 7 places, depending on whether you opt for individual swivel seats or a bench in row 2, as well as a 620 -liter trunk. Enough to go on a trip to 7 with luggage.
Outstanding characteristics
The Ioniq 9 will be offered in 3 engines:
- A version propulsion of 218 ch (160 kW).
- A version 4 -wheel drive with double engine : 95 ch (70 kW) in front and always 218 ch (160 kW) at the back.
- A version performance : 190 ch (140 kW) at the front and always 218 ch (160 kW) at the back.
The battery is obviously not to be outdone. The WLTP cycle autonomy is announced 600 km. To achieve this, the manufacturer has integrated a battery with a capacity of 110.3 kWh!
Recharge (in 800 V) is given to reach a 350 kW peak and promises a passage from 10 % to 80 % in 24 minutes. Given the performance of other IONIQ models on this point, we would not be surprised to see this time respected.
An almost normal exterior design
The ioniq 9 takes up the pixels, so dear to the Korean manufacturer. Its design is divisive and the opinions are decided: some love it, others hate. There is no happy medium.
In profile, the roof line lowers back to optimize aerodynamics and grab some CX points.
At the front, not all pixels will light up in Europe for reasons of standards. The style remains however close to that initiated with the Kona, especially with this famous light band, now taken up everywhere.
For its part, the rear incorporates a outline of red pixels, entirely lit this time. The lights recall those of the Volvo breaks, and the tailgate, slightly tilted outwards, even more optimizes the volume of the trunk.
An almost premium interior
The interior is impressive, starting with the driving position. Hyundai does not give in fashion dedicated to the passenger. The central screen is thus slightly oriented towards the driver. However, a video was broadcast, proof that it will be possible to watch movies, series or streaming. A choice all the more surprising since the head -up display is also present.
The steering wheel was subject to special care. It is very well finished on this preproduction model and the physical keys respond well.
Hyundai has chosen to keep a specific control of air conditioning controls (cool) but placed them on a touch screen (less cool).
The buttons remain present and offer direct access to the home screen, at native GPS (and its route planner), as well as a “favorite” key, which will most certainly be used to deactivate alerts of aid aid to driving. The two knobs, one of which for the volume, are always there, and that is a good point.
We continue with the front seats. Surprisingly, they do not benefit from the relaxation mode, this electrical adjustment cushion placed under the calves which, thanks to the inclination of the seat, allows you to go to the zero gravity position. Too bad, because this function would have had all its interest in this SUV. Fortunately, they are heated and ventilated.
In the center, a sliding console offering the induction load also incorporates the 360 ° camera control buttons and clic holders.
The panoramic glass roof adds light to the clear luminous light cabin, thanks to the large glass surfaces. Each window incorporates an blackout store.
Now let’s go to the second row. The seats are pivoting at 180 °, allowing passengers to find themselves face to face. The Isofix bases have also been designed accordingly, because yes, the four seats are equipped with it.
The settings are electric for all seats, including those of the three rows. Once the bottom seats have folded, the trunk offers a volume of 1,323 liters.
Our opinion: Why not?
We do not yet have any information on the Price. On the other hand, we know that marketing is planned from the start of this year in South Korea and the United States. The Ioniq 9 will then arrive in Europe. A luxurious edition, named Caligraphy, is also on the program.
The French market is not really cut for this type of vehicle: its size is too imposing for daily use, and our roads as well as our parking lots are not suitable for such dimensions. However, sales of the Kia EV9 have gone beyond expectations. It is therefore not impossible that this maxi ve will find its audience.
Time will tell us … Finally, time, and especially the price.
