The Pebble Round 2 doesn’t try to do everything, and that’s precisely what makes it so charming. No heart rate sensor or advanced sports tracking tools here. The watch focuses on the essentials: step counting, sleep tracking, notifications, music control and call management.

Fewer functions, more battery

In return, Pebble puts forward an argument that has become almost exotic in the connected watch market: autonomy. According to the manufacturer, the Round 2 can last between ten and fourteen days without recharging. In other words, you can go on vacation without thinking about the charger. A discreet, but very practical, luxury for those who are tired of plugging in their watch every evening. This technical positioning also makes it possible to maintain a reasonable Price. At $199, the Pebble Round 2 remains significantly more accessible than the majority of high-end connected watches, while covering the most common daily uses.

The Pebble Round 2 is not unknown. It is part of the legacy of the Pebble Time Round launched in 2015, the brand’s first round watch then known for its extreme finesse. The new version retains this DNA with a case of only 8.1 mm thick, ultimately quite close to the 7.5 mm of the original model. Eric Migicovsky, founder of Pebble, admits, however, that the first version had its flaws. “ It was one of my favorite Pebbles, but it wasn’t perfect, especially because of the huge bezel around the screen “, he admits. At the time, technical constraints imposed this design, consequently limiting the display surface.

Ten years later, technology has evolved. The Pebble Round 2 features a 1.3-inch color e-paper screen, displaying 260 × 260 pixels for a density of 283 ppi, twice as much as the Time Round. Result: more text on the screen, better readability and a significantly more balanced design. A backlight is also present for nighttime use.

The watch runs on Pebble OS, an open source system faithful to the spirit of the brand. It integrates two microphones for voice dictation and responses to messages, a function currently reserved for Android. However, iOS support is announced in Europe in the near future. The physical buttons, Pebble’s signature, are still there and allow you to manage calls and music without even looking at the screen, practical in meetings or with headphones.

On the hardware side, we find a stainless steel case, an accelerometer, a magnetometer, a silicone bracelet provided and several finishes to choose from, with bracelet widths varying depending on the model. The first deliveries will begin in May.
