Foldable Device is no longer a concept with tons of companies launching their devices and products with enhancements we never imagined. Who would have thought that the world could see a smartphone and then a phone that can be folded vertically as well as horizontally? Royole Technologies was the first one to introduce the first commercial foldable phone: Royole Flex Pei in 2018. However, Samsung was the first one to unveil a foldable smartphone with an in-ward folding design in 2019.
People have been waiting for years for Apple to launch its foldable smartphone in the market but we can’t see anything shortly. But a new report claims that the tech giant has been in the works for its foldable device. Analyst Ming Chui Kuo claims that Apple is working on its foldable smartphone but it’s still in the planning phase. To recall, there was a rumor in November claiming that the company had officially entered the development process of the new form factor. If that’s the case then we will not be able to see the foldable iPhone until 2026 or 2027.
Some other reports that claimed previously hinted towards Apple working with partners and exploring to development of a crease-free foldable for its iPads. Additionally, the report suggested that Apple’s first foldable iPad will be launched in 2025 but now everything has been put to rest. Nevertheless, the company might have taken a step further toward the ideation stage or in some cases might have crossed it already.
While the foldable market is highly dominated by Samsung, other global smartphone giants have officially entered the foldable segments including Oppo, Motorola, Vivo, and others, and launching some of the top-notch foldable devices. This again comes into the discussion as to why Apple getting late in bringing the foldable smartphone. Maybe because the company has yet to make sure that the product is durable and meets its quality standards.
If we look at the current available foldable devices in the market, they have visible creases when folded out which in terms of durability can affect long-term usage. Apple is still evaluating the component specifications for its upcoming foldable iPhone and hence sticking with the strict requirements for crease and reliability. Cupertino-based tech giant might seem in no hurry to launch a foldable smartphone because when it does launch, the company wants to make sure it is perfect. Some of the reports also claim that as soon as Apple launches its foldable iPhone, it will change the overall market dynamics. Whatever the case, we can’t wait enough to see a foldable iPhone soon!
