The German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems has said that it will double its production capacity in Ukraine in 2025.
In a press release on Friday, the startup of Peter Thiel-Stunder said that the planned expansion “reflected his” relentless commitment “to ensure that Kiev needs the technology it needs in the midst of his continuous war with Russia.
Quantum, which has already established two facilities in Ukraine, produces various detached air systems used by Kiev, including the “Vector” Reconnaissance Drone and the “Trinity” Mapping Drone. Since the start of the invasion, Ukraine has ordered hundreds of these systems from the company.
The Vectordrone from Quantum is mainly used for target identification and surveillance.
It can fly a maximum of 180 minutes, ensures real-time video streaming over a range of 35 kilometers (almost 22 miles), and has vertical start and landing capacity, says the company. The drone “Rucksack Portable” weighs only 18 pounds and is equipped with on board AI.
The company established in Munich also produces the “Trinity Pro” and “Trinity Tactical”, which are used for mapping and investigating.
These drones can cover an area of 700 hectares in one flight and can fly for 90 minutes, says Quantum. They can use different sensors to collect data, such as multi-spectral cameras and Lidar scanners.
They can be used to help assess environment and combat damage, as well as the research and mapping of important infrastructure and site, among other things.
Quantum was founded in 2015 and raised more than $ 200 million, per crunchbase.
Billionaire and co -founder of PayPal Peter Thiel is one of the investors who has pumped money into the company and participated in a financing round in addition to project A and Sanno Capital in 2022.
Thiel said at the time: “The future of UAS is neither software nor hardware alone, but in the intelligent synthesis of the two.”
“With that concept, Quantum-Systems is a leap for his competition,” he added.
The CEO of Quantum, Florian Seibel, said Business Insider earlier that the company was planning to get a lead over competitors by taking what he called a “Tesla approach”.
“You have to do everything from A to Z,” he said. “You are a hardware company, you are a production company, you are a data service company. That makes it a very complex business case, but that also makes it very defense.”
