Microsoft is preparing a small novelty for Windows 11: an integrated internet speed test directly at the taskbar. The function, which has appeared in the latest test versions of the operating system, is hidden in the context menu of the network icon, or in the quick parameters of Wi-Fi. With one click, the user is redirected to the bing flow measurement tool.
A discreet shortcut to bing
This service, which is therefore already available online on Bing, is actually only a declination of Speedtest.net (developed by Ookla), one of the most famous sites to assess the latency, downward speed and the amount of connection. No heavy software or additional installation: everything has been done from the browser, directly from the Windows 11 interface. This has the merit of simplicity!

Microsoft has not officially announced the arrival of this option in the future update 25h2 of Windows 11. For the time being, only members of the Windows Insider program can see it in the builds The most recent. Nothing guarantees that it will be integrated as it is in the final version, but its simplicity suggests that it could quickly find itself in the hands of the greatest number.
The initiative divides however. For some of the users, having a speed test accessible in two clicks on hand in the taskbar is practical, especially at a time when network stability is essential, whether for streaming or file synchronization. On the contrary, we can consider that it is not a real tool integrated into Windows, but simply a disguised shortcut to a web page.
However, it will be necessary to wait several months before a general deployment. Until then, Microsoft could change the operation of the shortcut. Some may hope for further integration, for example a small native panel displaying the results without going through a browser. But there is every need to be skeptical: the editor of Redmond is rather used to adding links to his own services, which is often a diverted way of promoting Bing.
Anyway, the function meets a very real need. Today, no longer having access to the Internet is almost to make a computer unusable. Knowing quickly if the connection is working properly can therefore be very useful! It remains to be seen if Microsoft will be satisfied with this shortcut, or if the publisher will choose to listen to the returns of the testers and offer a more successful solution in Windows 11.
