She supported you during your most intense revisions, during your painful dissertation writing, or even during your longest working days… But the Lofi Girl is about to venture outside of YouTube towards the real world to open her own Parisian café. No it’s not a joke: a Lofi Café brand will appear in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, at 60 rue Saint-Denis, a stone’s throw from the Halles de Châtelet. The windows of the place were decorated to announce the imminent arrival of the very first official Lofi Girl café, and it didn’t take much to generate major enthusiasm on social networks.

According to the cafe’s official website, it will be “a cozy place in the heart of Paris to take a break, work and relax“. On paper, the Lofi Café therefore looks like a coworking space, but the exact functioning of the place has not yet been detailed on the site. The organization of the café nevertheless promises to be crucial to prevent the concept from falling through. The popularity of the Lofi Girl is no longer in doubt, and the thousands of reactions on social networks regarding the opening of the place suggest that the crowds will be there… which could well tarnish the relaxing experience.
We can already imagine an endless queue to enter the café, except that there is nothing “cozy” about waiting for hours outside in the hope of enjoying a little moment of serenity. But a café is also not intended to set up reservation slots to come and sip a drink on site. That would complicate things way too much. Since there is no miracle solution for managing the crowds, the first weeks of opening of the Lofi Café risk being more intense than calm. We nevertheless hope to be wrong since we are already looking forward to putting ourselves in the shoes of the Lofi Girl for a coffee break. See you in early 2026 to find out for sure.
But actually, how did the Lofi Girl become such a phenomenon?
Born on YouTube as a simple background radio station for work, the Lofi Girl quickly established herself as an internet icon, to the point of today inspiring a very real café in the heart of Paris. In less than ten years, this anonymous student who revises at her desk has transformed into a brand in its own right, with its own merchandising and now its own brand in the heart of the capital.
The project started in 2017 under the name ChilledCow, a YouTube channel launched by Frenchman Dimitri Somoguy, which streams lo-fi hip-hop to help you concentrate while working or revising. Faced with the success of his concept, Dimitri Somoguy could no longer use the images from the Ghibli film If you listen to illustrate the live performance due to copyright. This is how he commissioned the illustrator Juan Pablo Machado to bring to life the Lofi Girl, directly inspired by the character of Shizuku.
The young virtual student owes her success to an effective strategy, deployed at just the right time. By combining this concept of uninterrupted live music with a unique visual identity, viewers became more easily attached to the channel. Adding to this the democratization of teleworking and remote studies, the Lofi Girl has naturally established itself in the daily lives of some 15.6 million subscribers.
