Microsoft’s plans to cancel Windows 10 support to its users, and try to force them to update Windows 11, in many cases having to Buy a new team, have angered not a few of its users, although so far not so much as to demand those of Redmond. But the situation has changed, since according to The Register, A man from California has denounced the company for trying to force him to install Windows 11.

This man, Lawrence Klein, in addition to showing his tremendous anger, wants to get Microsoft to continue providing free updates to Windows 10 until the popularity of this operating system falls by itself with the passage of time.

In the text of the demand it is collected that Klein owns two laptops with Windows 10 that cannot be updated to Windows 11 for lacking the Trusted Platform Module Module Module Module 2.0 (TPM), necessary for the updated operating system to function. Microsoft designed that restriction to improve security, but the company previously offered an alternative solution that allowed to install the operating system without TPM.

Klein’s argument is reduced to stating that Microsoft violated California regulations on business, advertising and consumer protection by forcing Windows 10 users to make unnecessary updates and leave without the necessary security updates to those who have decided not to update Windows 11.

However, users do not have to change to Windows 11 to continue receiving support after October. Microsoft currently charges $ 30 for the first year of expanded support for Windows 10, and this year is obtained free if the Microsoft Reward points are used or session is logged with with a Microsoft account and the data is synchronized in the cloud.

But Klein wants the court to force Microsoft to offer free support for Windows 10 «Until the number of devices that run the operating system is less than 10 % of the total Windows users«. As an alternative, according to its lawyers, the court could also force Microsoft to relax these unnecessary hardware restrictions.

The demand affirms on the other hand that, unlike the previous withdrawals of Windows, the end of the useful life of Windows 10 is premature.

The complaint also notes that Windows 10 still had more than 50 % market share when Microsoft announced its withdrawal plans last year. Its market share has grown, but not enough, since almost 43% of users of the operating system continue to use Windows 10.

That is much more than in previous withdrawals, the complaint maintains. Basically, Klein argues that the transition to Windows 11 has been forced, artificial and not very friendly for users, and that it could be very profitable for Microsoft and PC manufacturers that buy the Windows license.

By forcing users to move to a PC fully compatible with Windows 11 and Co -cilot, Microsoft could also obtain an advantage over the companies of the competitionsince he is the predetermined assistant. The rest of AI companies should convince users to accept using their own.
