A second Parc Astérix will open its doors in Europe: what you need to know

Asterix and Obelix are used to having adventures all over the world. But when it comes to their amusement park, the die-hard Gauls had until now restricted themselves to the borders of France. However, this will change following the announcement of a new destination inspired by the comics of Uderzo and Goscinny. On the occasion of the presentation of its financial results this Tuesday, December 2, 2025, La Compagnie des Alpes, the group that owns Parc Astérix, unveiled a project to transform the German Belantis park purchased last April. From spring 2026, the tourist destination located in Leipzig in eastern Germany will inaugurate “a first zone dedicated to Idéfix“ before beginning a more in-depth change.

The Compagnie des Alpes is banking on a complete transformation of the Belantis park into Parc Astérix at “l’horizon 2030/2031“. This establishment in Germany does not come from nowhere. Our neighbors across the Rhine are the second largest consumers of Asterix comics in the world, after France of course. The geographical position of the destination will also be a major asset in convincing visitors to make the trip. Leipzig is connected to Berlin and Dresden via the motorway, and is therefore a reasonable distance from the borders with Czechia and Belgium.

“This park has the potential to ultimately welcome nearly 900,000 visitors per year.” estimates La Compagnie des Alpes. For comparison, the French Parc Astérix welcomed 2.9 million visitors during the 2024-2025 season. Suffice to say that the second German destination targets a completely different market.

What thematic universes will we find within the German Parc Astérix?

For the moment, only an Idéfix zone – the inauguration of which will take place next spring – has been officially unveiled by La Compagnie des Alpes. But a quick analysis of the current plan of the Belantis park allows us to identify future lands anchored in the universe of the diehard Gauls. The entrance to the park could, for example, be reworked into the palace of Julius Caesar, and therefore create an opposition with the main Gallic avenue of the French Parc Astérix.

In the east, there is no doubt that the existing Egyptian area will be reused as is. The same goes for the right lake in the park, which already seems to have enough Greek thematic elements to only require a few additions. The Gallic village could be built in place of the “Indian prairie” located to the west on the map, while the medieval area to the north of the park could very well serve as a Scottish land, inspired by the album Asterix among the Picts. These are just theories, but Belantis Park already presents itself as a destination perfectly suited to re-theming Asterix. Between this announcement and that of a LEGO land Harry Potter at LEGOLAND Deutschland, Germany promises to be a powerhouse of the theme park industry in Europe in the coming years.

The French Parc Astérix is not to be outdone

Last October, the management of Parc Astérix and La Compagnie des Alpes lifted the veil on the future of the destination located in Oise. Development of the Egyptian and Greek areas, opening of a 4-star hotel or even the creation of a brand new Land Londinium in place of the Rues de Paris: the die-hard Gauls are not going to shy away from establishing themselves as a destination of choice to attract visitors from all over Europe.

Parc Astérix is indeed seeking to position itself in the top 5 of the best parks in Europe in terms of attendance. In 2024, the destination was in 8th place, behind Gardaland in Italy (7th), PortAventura in Spain (8th) and Tivoli Gardens in Denmark (5th).
