The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and GridMatrix announced an expansion of their partnership on June 25.
GridMatrix, a leading provider of AI software for critical infrastructure optimization, will deploy its cloud-based software platform in the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Since 2022, GridMatrix has been working with the Port Authority – first through a pilot to improve operations on the George Washington Bridge and then scale up deployment to the Lincoln and Holland tunnels.

This latest deployment will focus on optimizing operations at Port Newark and the Elizabeth-Port Authority Marine Terminal. The operations professionals at the port complex use GridMatrix software to generate real-time alerts related to security, traffic flow, vessel activity and emissions – as well as several other key performance indicators about efficiency and safety in the facility.
Over time, the software will be used to generate data on these metrics. The platform uses AI and feed from existing cameras deployed in Port Newark to generate data insights.
“We are excited and humbled to have the opportunity to deploy our software at the Newark-Elizabeth Port Complex and serve the facility’s operations professionals,” said Nick D’Andre, CEO and co-founder of GridMatrix. “This is the busiest container port on the US East Coast and an important part of the critical infrastructure in the global supply chain.”
Bethann Rooney, port director at the Bistate Agency, said the backbone of the Port of New York and New Jersey’s success is its laser focus on safe, efficient and agile operations across roads, rails and canals.
“Our work with GridMatrix will take these priorities to the next level, allowing us to quickly identify and respond to issues, gain operational insights from new data streams – and ultimately keep the goods that power our economy flowing,” said Rooney.
“We are ready to take another step in working with the Port Authority in one of the most critical facilities it operates,” D’Andre added.
What to do New Jerseyans say?
