AirPods supplier Jabil is reportedly looking to expand production of casings with a new, second factory in India’s Tamil Nadu region.
Apple’s push to increase production of its devices in India instead of China, has previously been reported to include AirPods cases. US firm Jabil has long been manufacturing AirPods charging cases, and now a new report says it specifically wants to expand its production capacity.
According to India’s Economic Times, Jabil wants to significantly boost production in India of what are described as being enclosures, plastic bodies, or casings. The new factory doesn’t appear to be intended for full charging cases, only components of them.
Jabil itself has not confirmed any details, but sources said to be familiar with its plans claim it aims to build a facility in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Executives from the company met with Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin in April 2025, before visiting the site, known as “Trichy.”
“Jabil is considering Trichy as an AirPods production option,” said a source. “They are expected to get back to the state government on their final plan by the end of June or July.”
AirPods themselves are now chiefly made in India by Foxconn. Separately, Foxconn is also planning to expand its iPhone production in the country.
